Jimmy D. Schmidt

 Jimmy D. Schmidt (83) of Spokane, WA passed away on August 26, 2026.

A 30-minute graveside service will take place on Tuesday, September 22 at 11:15 AM at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery. All family and friends are welcome to gather immediately afterward for a Celebration of Life beginning at 12:30 PM at Peace Lutheran Church, located at 4124 N. Harvard Rd, Otis Orchards.

Jimmy was born in Mullan, Idaho in 1943. Jimmy earned his GED in 1961, before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. During his military career he was stationed in and traveled to numerous locations, including San Diego, Pearl Harbor, Okinawa, The Philippines, and Hong Kong.

Following his discharge from the military, he met the love of his life, moved to Spokane, and started a family. The couple was blessed with four children and celebrated 59 years of marriage before she passed away in 2024.

Jimmy worked a variety of jobs throughout his career, ultimately retiring from his final position at Fairchild Air Force Base.

To know Jimmy was to know a man who truly appreciated the simple joys of life. He was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved- whether he was camping with his wife and family or catching up with his sisters, children, and grandchildren. He loved the thrill of a scratch-off ticket, a good game of chess and playing dice or cards with anyone willing to sit down with him. If the Mariners or Seahawks were playing, Jimmy was watching, though he was just as content putting on Star Trek, an old western, or a war show. He loved a good meal, especially a great steak or breakfast food. But most importantly, Jimmy was grounded in his faith. He loved going to church, reading his Bible, and constantly learning from his favorite YouTube Bible teachers.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife Dianna and sister Connie and is survived by his four children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his three sisters.
