J.M. "Mike" Oswald

J.M. "Mike" Oswald Obituary Passed away on October 6, 2011. He was born September 1, 1925 in Spokane, Washington to John and Ethel Oswald. He attended Lewis and Clark High School and later the University of Idaho where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and the Idaho Vandal track team. He was also active in the Idaho Drama Group. He married Enid Almquist in 1947 and returned to Spokane in 1948 where he and Enid raised five children on the original homestead. Mr. Oswald was a member of the Sunset Grange and was a Cheney School Board member. He was also an advisory board member for the Future Farmers of America. He went to work for Adam's Tractor Company in 1948. He eventually became part owner and remained for 37 years until his retirement in 1985. Enid passed away in 1998 after 51 years of marriage and in 2003, Mike married Georgia Schneider. Mike loved his family and especially Cheney High School football games where his son, Tom, coached and several of his grandchildren played. He was fond of spending summers at his cabin on Lake Pend Oreille and winters in Maui. While living at the homestead, Mike enjoyed growing a garden, raising cattle and watching the wheat grow. He was known to make a mean rhubarb pie. Later, he and Georgia moved to the Waterford. Mike was preceded in death by his wife Enid and son Tom. He is survived by his second wife Georgia, Susan Oswald (Tom deceased), Kris Hollingbery (Donald), Gayle Fox (Fred), John Oswald (Juanita) and Jeff Oswald (Paula). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A private family Graveside Service will be held at Spokane Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mike may be made to the Union Gospel Mission, 1224 E. Trent Avenue, Spokane, WA 99202, for the children's camp, or Hospice of Spokane, P.O. Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210. A special thank you to the nursing staff at the Waterford, and Hospice of Spokane for the compassionate and quality care they provided.
