Jo Ann Malicki Obituary Our beloved mother, wife, and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Hospice of Spokane. Born Jo Ann White, she was the youngest of two daughters born at Deaconess Hospital and raised in Spokane. In 1953, she met and married the love of her life, Larry Malicki, with whom she celebrated 58 years of marriage until Larrys death in 2012. During their marriage, Jo Ann worked in various jobs while they traveled and made their homes in various locations through the Air Force, finally settling in Spokane for good in 1974. With all of Jo Anns talents and projects over the years, her most favorite role was that of being a mother. In addition to her own children Jo Ann was known for befriending the neighbor kids, sometimes taking them in, and offering a home environment for whoever she felt may need it. During her last 6 years at Brookdale, Jo Ann enjoyed taking on projects that helped raise money for the staff or taking a lead in any effort that helped provide support to local charities or causes. Her legacy is one of helpfulness and caring. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister Betty Kolbet; and her son-in-law, Peter Maxwell, she is survived by her daughter Angie Maxwell; son David Malicki and wife Paula; grandson Gregory; a nephew, two nieces and friends who, for Jo Ann, were simply extended family. May God hold you and keep you by his side until we are all united. Jo Anns life will be celebrated at St. Anns Catholic Church, 2120 E. First Ave on October 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with a memorial reception following at Brookdale South Regal, 3117 E. Chaser Lane. We would like to thank all of those that knew and loved our mom over the years and especially the most recent caregivers in her life that not only helped her through some of her more difficult health challenges, but who also helped the family through this transition.
