Jo E. Bowen Obituary
99 years of life
Jo passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 15, 2012. She was
born in Wilkinson, Georgia on May 20, 1913. She graduated from the Atlanta
School of Design and began working at Davidson's Department Store in Atlanta as
an interior designer. She became the head of the Decorating Department and the
stylist for the furniture department. Jo had the opportunity to decorate the
homes of prominent Atlanta residents, including the president of Coca Cola and
Emory University. During this time she met Margaret Mitchell and attended the
opening of Gone With the Wind. She met Lloyd Bowen at a party hosted by Bette
Davis and they were married on March 3, 1945. They spent time in Trinidad where
Lloyd was stationed during World War II. They resided in Los Angeles after the
war where Jo worked as a decorator for Bullocks Department Store and later had
her own decorating business. Lloyd passed away in 1990. In 1998 she moved to
Spokane to be with her daughter, Joan Bowen Forni, who is an Instructional Coach
at Longfellow School, and her husband Vic Forni, who is the retired CEO of
United Way of Spokane County. In addition to Joan and Vic, she leaves two
grandsons, Marc Forni of Washington, DC, and Greg Forni of Los Angeles. There will be a memorial service and burial in Los Angeles at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at Touchmark for their friendship and care. They would
also like to thank the Eucharist Ministers and ushers at St. Al's Catholic Church for
their kindness. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that
donations be made in her honor to SPS-Longfellow School, 200 N. Bernard,
