Joan Signer Obituary Joan was born in Blackpool, England, the daughter of Mildred and Reginald Hughes. She grew up in Lytham/St. Annes along with her sisters Ursula and Nora. She met John Robert Signer at a dance hall. He was an American Airforce service man stationed in England during WWII, They loved to jitter-bug to the jazz tunes of the day. They married on October 25th 1945 in England and soon departed for the Bay Area of California. Joan and Bob were happily married for sixty-five years. Joan and Bob became the proud parents of four boys (Robert, Stephen, Jeffrey, and Ian), and one daughter (Catherine). Joan has 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Joan was always dedicated to service and helping others from involvement with her children's school to 30 years of making monthly meals for the elderly and bringing Catholic communion to the sick. Joan has always had a love for animals that has included being the care provider for not only cats and dogs but tortoises, hummingbirds and chickens. A memorial service will be held at the Touchmark Chapel, Saturda,y May 12th at 11am, located at 2929 S.
