Joel S. Ream Obituary Joel S. Ream was born November 12, 1921 in Ketchikan, AK. At 93 he passed away on March 12, 2015 in Spokane, WA. He attended the school of journalism at the University of Washington. Before coming to Spokane in 1952 he worked on the editorial staff of the United Press Association in Seattle and Indianapolis, Indiana, the Twin Falls Idaho Telegram, the Boise Idaho Statesman, the Big Springs Texas Herald, the Fremont Nebraska Guide and Tribune, the Everett Washington Herald, the Vallejo California Times-Herald, and the Roseburg, Oregon News-Review. Joel Ream was the copy editor and business news reporter on the staff of the Spokesman-Review for 32 years. He retired in 1984. Joel was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, hiking, mountain climbing, and skiing. He belonged to the Spokane Mountaineers from 1960 until 2012 climbing many of the mountains in the Northwest with the club. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorna Ream. He is survived by his brother, daughter, son, and two granddaughters. Spokane Hospice helped him through his final days.
