Joe passed away December 10, 2011 at his home in Spokane, Washington. He was born in Pasadena, California and attended school in Southern California where Physics and Mathematics were among his favorite subjects. He met his wife Joyce (he always called her his Joycee Baby) in 1972, and they were inseparable until her death from lung cancer earlier this year. Joe was always a very active person and had many interests and hobbies during his lifetime. He raised and raced pigeons, flew airplanes, loved music and enjoyed sailing, archery, guns and fast cars. He really loved Ford Mustangs.
Before a disability forced him into early retirement, Joe worked for the Idaho Department of Juvenile Justice in North Idaho. He enjoyed his job helping teenagers and their families. Joe always said the kids just needed someone to care about them, and he was that someone. Joe was a musician and singer who played many ?gigs.? Following a stroke in the mid 1990?s, he refused to give in, and in fact, was able to sing again before he could speak properly.
Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife Joyce and parents Ralph and Margaret Kirn. He is survived by his brothers Ralph Kirn and Greg (Elba) Kirn of Lake Elsinore, Ca, sister-in-law Skip (Jerry) Pedigo of Huntington Beach, Ca, daughters Cathy (Alan) Searls of Auburn, Ca, Tonya (Don) Smith and Susan (Steven) Kokkinen of Spokane, Wa, sons Alan (Shirley) Prisco of Deer Park, Wa, Alvin Tate and Harold Tate of North Hollywood, Ca and Tim Tate of Maricopa, Az. He also leaves behind many grandchildren: Shanna, Jason and Steven; Alan, Robert and Scott; Daniel; Charlene, Marc and Steven; Brian; Hannah, Holly, Meghan, Christian and Lucas.
In addition to his family, Joe will be greatly missed by the many friends he has made along the way. The family wishes to thank those friends and neighbors who really cared about Joe.
