Joseph Hawkins Munger Obituary (Age 92) Joe Munger passed away peacefully with his children by his side on February 14, 2018. Joe was born in Bloom Ford County, Kansas on December 10, 1925 to Clifton and Maude Munger. He was one of eight children in the Munger family, survived by oldest sister Wilma Hainline age 100 and youngest sister Suzanne Trautmann age 90. Growing up amidst the dust bowl years on their farm in Kansas and the great depression, there were times as a family when all they had were each other. The era shaped Joes character to be highly self reliant, a prolific organized thinker with many talents. After graduating from Sutton High School in Nebraska, Joe attended Doane University and then joined the Navy to serve his country, from 1944 to 1946. In the Navy he was a Seaman 1st class, frigate gunner, Aviation Support Technician, fought in the European-African Middle East and the Asiatic Pacific. Returning from the navy Joe became a HVAC tradesman, relocating from Kansas Missouri with his parents to Spokane, where he remained a lifelong resident. He worked for Peck and Gale, also known as Gale Mechanical Contractors in commercial and residential air heating industry. Eventually, Joe went into business as Brown and Johnston Mechanical Contractors, accomplishing important projects in Spokane and around the Inland Northwest. Projects include, Old National Bank, Inn at the Park, Spokesman Review, Regal Elementary, Woodridge Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Providence Hospital Walla Walla, Monroe Hall WSU. Joe loved to be active in his work, loved reading books on many subject, always wanted to know what was going on in the world, exploring new ideas. During retirement he never quit working becoming an entrepreneur designing and patenting a process recycling tires as a source of energy and extraction of reusable oil products. Joe is also survived by three children Peggy Munger-Stirn, Paul Munger and Sandra Munger, who reside in Spokane; grandchildren Rachel Robison of Spokane, Angie Munger of Seattle, WA; great-grandchild Elise Robison and soon to be born Quincy Lou Wilson.
