Joseph Thomas Troy Obituary Joseph was born December 14, 1944 in Columbus, OH, and died on November 16, 2017 in Spokane, WA, following a long illness. Joe was the sixth child and the baby of the blended family of Eleanor Hughes Troy and Thomas Joseph Troy. He graduated from Ohio University in 1969 with a degree in business administration. Joe served in the United States Army Reserves during the Vietnam War from 1964-1970. Joes employment included Flicks IGA, Columbus, Ohio; DuPont, Wilmington, Delaware and Spokane, where he was the technical representative in the Photo Products Division until 1976. He became partners in Bell Builders in Spokane, followed by real estate work with Feldman-Person. In partnership with his brother-in-law, Mark McGrath, Joe founded Goldencrest Construction. He later worked for the state of Washington, Department of Social and Health Services as a child support enforcement officer. Joe married Kathleen Keene on September 19, 1967, in Columbus, OH. They made their home in Spokane where they began raising their five children. Kathy died on December 26, 1986. After a stint as Mister Mom he married Sharon Shari DeBerg on June 22, 1991, in Spokane creating a blended family of seven children. Joe retired from DSHS in 2009 and enjoyed his hobbies of wildlife photography, day trips with friends, independent excursions to the National Bison Range, and motorhome travel with Shari. He became a volunteer for Kiras Kloset, a clothing charity for needy school children. He was a regular at sporting events and dance recitals of his grandchildren who were the joy of his life. Survivors include: his wife, Shari DeBerg; children, Sean Troy (Stephanie), Christopher Troy (Lauren), Ryan Troy (Elaine Mast), Megan Bombino (Josh), Colin Troy (Christy Mach), Justin DeBerg, Darren DeBerg (Claire); and niece, Patsy Moushey. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Moushey of Minneapolis, ten grandchildren, and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and loyal friends. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church, 15515 N. Gleneden Dr., Spokane. In lieu of flowers Joe prefers that donations be made to Kiras Kloset, Union Gospel Mission, or Nature Conservancy.
