Joyce Johannah (Hartmann) DeVaul Obituary Joyce Johannah (Hartmann) DeVaul, 85, went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018. Joyce was born to Heie and Sena Hartmann on a farm north of Rolfe, Iowa on Aug. 31, 1932. She was graduated from Rolfe High School in 1951 and went on to study at Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, where she was graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1954. She worked as a nurse in Des Moines and Fort Dodge, Iowa and Alexandria, Virginia. She married Franklin Day DeVaul on Dec. 29, 1956 at the First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City, Iowa. Together they raised three children, Debra, Franklin Jr. and De Ann, in the Christian faith. As a loving wife and mother, her faith was evident on a daily basis and her life was a testament to the strength, grace and love of Christ to all those who came into contact with her. Joyce enjoyed creating nurturing homes in Eugene, Ore., Weed, Calif, Longview and Spokane, Wash., Klamath Falls, Ore., and Bawtry, England before she and Frank returned to Spokane in 2003. She was active in her church wherever the family lived and was currently a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Spokane. Over the years she was active in the Lutheran Womens Missionary League, Church Circles, Sunday School, youth groups, Bible studies, quilting groups and served wherever the Lord called her. Her unwavering faith was an inspiration to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and everyone who knew her. Joyce loved to sew, care for her family, spend time with her grandchildren, play with her great-grandchildren, and create many special family memories. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 2006, her parents, her brother Robert Hartmann and a sister, Caroline Dady. She will be deeply missed by her children: Debra and Robin Wieber of Round Rock, Texas, Franklin Jr. and Judy of Chehalis, Wash., and De Ann and Rolf Tangvald of Spokane, Wash.; her grandchildren: R.J. (Karla) Wieber, Becky (Grant) Grabert, Kathleen Wieber and Jordan Wieber; Brint (Casey) Gelvin, Shanna DeVaul, Franklin DeVaul III and Ember DeVaul; and Kjerste (Ryan) Dingle, Kaitlund Tangvald, Thor Tangvald and Annika Tangvald; her great-grandchildren: Christian Gelvin, Eli Wentzel, Chloe Gelvin and Whitney Dingle; a sister, Geraldine Hansen, as well as nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service will be held at Riverside Memorial Park. A Memorial Service to celebrate Joyces life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19th at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.
