June Gottwig Rogers

June Gottwig Rogers Obituary (Age 93) June died peacefully at Hospice House North in Spokane on June 28, 2016. June was the firstborn of five children to Jacob and Kathryn Hergert Gottwig. She was born on August 4, 1922 in Walla Walla where she lived most of her life until she moved to Royal Plaza Retirement Center in Spokane in 2005. June was educated in Walla Walla and graduated from Walla High School in 1940. She attended one year of nursing school at St. Mary�s Hospital. Over the years June worked as a cook at Jefferson and Washington schools making wonderful �homemade� meals. June also worked as a meat wrapper at Plaza Safeway. She was a very active member of the Central Christian Church in Walla Walla and North Hill Christian Church in Spokane. June enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling in the motorhome, walking on the beach to collect treasures, working in her garden, cooking wonderful meals, reading everything, even the Harry Potter series, crocheting afghans and doilies, and dancing or listening to Big Band music. June�s legacy in life was her love and care for others and strength in facing adversity. June married Arnold Rogers in 1962. He preceded her in death on June 28, 2002. June was also preceded in death by her son; Lowell Schultz (killed in Vietnam in 1966); her parents; siblings Joan Walery; Jack �Buck� Gottwig; Betty Lou Records and James Gottwig. June is survived by five children; Jackie Woods of Walla Walla; Dollie (Jerry) Bruce of Renton; Michael (Lynn) Schultz of Spokane; Janice Heilbrun of Walla Walla; Carol (Allan) Miller of Bingen and Julie Schultz of Spokane. Viewing will be held Tuesday, July 5th from 10:00 to 5:00 at Heritage Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held for June at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla on Wednesday, July 6th at 1:00pm and a Memorial Service will be held 1:30pm July 12 at Royal Park Retirement Center. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of June Rogers can be made to Hospice House of Spokane, 102 W Rhoades Ave., Spokane, WA 99208. The family would like to thank the staff at Royal Park Retirement Center for the warm family-like care June received over the past 11 years and Hospice House North staff and volunteers for their gentle, loving care in her final days.
