Karen Kathleen Powell Obituary (Age 78) Mom was born in Havre Hills Co in 1939 to Wilma Briscoe and Elton Webb. Her parents divorced when she was 3 and was later blessed with Ernie Johnson (dad) and 2 little brothers, Ron and Jeff. Mom graduated from North Central in 1957. She spent 1 year at WSU and realized college wasnt for her and began her lifelong career in government. Mom worked for Federal Crop Insurance and finally landing at US Border Patrol being promoted to Administrative Officer until her retirement after 30 years of service. She was proud of the work she did for the government and chuckled and said, thats probably why to this day I cant throw away any paperwork. Mom married the love of her life, Robert Powell shortly after their introduction by Auntie Beth and Grandma Powell when Dad was home on leave. She was the most incredible Mom to 3 high spirited, strong willed children, all born within a 4 year period. She worked full time after we went off to school and still managing to cook, the most amazing home cooked meals. (those pork chops) We always had our special birthday request meal. She ensured we all had matching hand sewn, holiday clothes, did the prep and cleanup for every camping, fishing, or road trip for us 3 children and Dad. We knew it was bowling night by the quick meal of canned chili and instant rice or SOS before she left for her league night. We never went without. At Christmas, we thought we were the richest kids in the neighborhood, and even as grown ass adults, we got our Easter Baskets. Moms needs were secondary to everyone else, whether it be taking care of our Auntie Beth until she passed at 93, or ensuring Dad had the BEST care after his stroke a year ago. Mom had everything in order for everyone before she passed away of complications from her own stroke a mere 3 weeks ago. She had the final say, the final word, just as she always wanted. She created 3 strong children just by being who she was. She will be dearly missed by everyone. Mom is survived by her husband, Robert Powell of 57 years, daughters, Michele (Gary/Audrey Mortenson), Lisa (Randy/Hannah Souers), her favorite son, Kevin (Kim/Chris/Kyle); brothers, Ron (Wendy), and Jeff (Michael), cousin Caryl (Dimitri/Jason) and Molly. Thank you to everyone that loved our Mom. It means more to us than you can imagine.
