Katherine "Baka" L. Spayer Obituary
Passed away June 24, 2009. She was born July 9, 1920 in Lawrence, KS,, to Hward "Pix" and Dorothy (Pringle) Moore. After graduating high school in Lawrence, KS, she went to San Diego on a graduation trip where she met and married her husband, Johnny. They lived in San Diego until their first daughter was born, then moved to Las Vegas where they raised their two daughters. Las Vegas was a western town where they would ride their horses to breakfast on the Las Vegas Strip after work. She led an interesting life and knew many famous entertainers in her younger years, including members of the Rat Pack. In the summer, they often moved to Jackson Hole, WY for Johnny's work. She moved to Spokane in the late '80's to be close to her beloved grandchildren, who knew her as Baka. The nickname caught on and from then on she was known to everyone who loved her as Baka. Her family was her life and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her two daughters, Sandy Kates & Debby Black, both of Spokane. Her beloved three grandchildren, Megan Birdsall and her husband Mike; Kendra Ferguson and her husband Matt; and Zach Black; and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, John Spayer. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 29th, 4:00PM at Heritage Funeral Chapel.
