Kathleen Mary Pasby (Sweeney) May 2, 1941 – November 30, 2025

Mom passed away peacefully on Nov 30th at the proud age of 84 - the “oldest” of any known family member. She was born on May 2, 1941 & raised in Spokane. Kathy attended St Aloyisius & graduated from Holy Names Academy in 1959. Mom attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing before meeting & marrying the late love of her life Larry. They relocated in business soon after marrying & transferred to several cities in the northwest corner of the US to include Great Falls, Idaho Falls, Eugene, Longview, Olympia, Kirkland, Yakima & eventually retiring back to Spokane.

Mom herself served a long, proud & distinguished career as a Registered Nurse all the while balancing life as a compassionate & very involved Mother to her children - Molly Toohey, Dan Pasby (Lisa) & Meribeth Phipps. A proud Grammie to Kurtis, Halee, Joseph, Kaelah, Shawnee & Great Grammie to Camden, Malix, Auryn, & Naomi. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Edward & Eunice (Lynch) Sweeney of Spokane WA, her sister Annie Coyne & son Patrick. Kathy’s passions were many to include being a sports fan, playing bridge, seamstress work, mastering board games, spending time at the family cabin at Twin Lakes & certainly spending time with friends & family.

Of her many accomplishments during her beautiful life was the involvement with Dad in the start up & growth of Washington State Special Olympics in the 1970s. Mom was an enormous advocate for the developmentally disabled & served many years as a dedicated board member to the ARC of Spokane with Molly. Mom was also busy in supporting Dan & Meribeth in their many sporting adventures and was a beautiful pianist. Mom was an excellent cook & known for an awesome Thanksgiving gravy, turkey noodle soup and famous clam dip.

A service will be held on December 13th at 1 pm at St Thomas Moore. Mom will join Dad at the mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery at a private ceremony at a later date.  We will forever be grateful to Horizon Hospice & Angel Senior Care for their compassionate care of Mom.
