Kerry Brent Swiggum, 79, of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025 after his long battle with an illness at Legacy Health and Rehab.
Kerry was born on November 21, 1946 in Dawson, Minnesota to Eileen Marian Limberg. He graduated from El Segundo High School in June 1964, joined the United States Army and was deployed to Vietnam. He married the love of his life, Diane Christine Standage, then had their first child, Charlene Lucille Swiggum, in 1969 and their final child, Joseph Carl Swiggum, in 1973. In the year 1976, he received an Achievement Award from El Camino Community College then graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Science in 1977. He graduated from the Kern County Peace Officers Regional Training Academy in 1981 and accepted a position at the China Lake Police Department where he would take extra courses and receive many awards such as Employee of the Quarter. After 20 years of service, Kerry retired as a Lieutenant in 2001 and then moved to Idaho Falls where he spent his retirement with family doing what he loved- fishing, going to movies, tying flies, hosting Sunday family dinners, working Santa gigs at Christmas time and living his best life.
Kerry is preceded in death by his wife, Diane Christine Standage, mother Eileen Marian Swiggum, sister Roxanne Swiggum, and nephew Dainel Swiggum.
Kerry is survived by his daughter Charlene Norris (Shane), son Joseph Swiggum (Kristina), grandchildren Brittany Linde (Brandon), Kayla Swiggum (Dennis), Amber Bissette (Treyian), Helen Whitehouse (Nick), Brent Swiggum, Daniel Swiggum, great grandchildren Ethan, Logan, Liam, and Dylan Linde, D.J. Grimes, Hadley Bissette, siblings Connie Barnow (Chuck), Donna Summit (Richard), Stewart Swiggum (Marian), Eric Swiggum, Tammy Swiggum Greenlees (Allen), and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Heritage Funeral & Cremation, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA on Friday, June 27 at 9:30 a.m. with graveside service to follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
