Larry E. Smith Obituary (Age 77) Larry was born May 3, 1937 in Spokane, he passed away on October 12, 2014 after an extended and courageous battle with MDS and Leukemia. Larry passed peacefully in his sleep in the early morning with family nearby. Larry was a true eastern Washington native, growing up in Spokane and the Okanagan. He was became incredibly self-reliant at young age, which served him well throughout his life. Larry graduated from West Valley HS in Spokane. He then earned his Bachelor�s degree in Agriculture from Washington State University. Upon earning his degree, Larry went to work in the egg farming industry, while wife, Bev, began her teaching career in Bellingham and Cove, OR. Larry continued to work in the egg farm business until becoming the owner of Sunset Farms in Medical Lake, WA. His work in the egg business led to an opportunity to transition to management within the Sambo�s Restaurant organization through the mid to late seventies. Larry advanced through the Sambo�s management moving him from Spokane to Seattle to Monroe, LA to Mufreesboro, TN and back to Seattle. Larry left Sambo�s to return to eastern WA to establish his own restaurants which included: Willow Springs Station (Cheney), Post Ave. Deli (Spokane), Otter Bay Restaurant (Spokane) and Schlotsky�s Deli (Spokane Valley). Larry will be remembered for being a tenacious worker, shrewd businessman, effective mentor and loyal friend who cared deeply for family, friends, and community. Although he could be resourceful and tough when the situation required, he always conducted himself with honesty and integrity. Larry and Bev most enjoyed traveling to Mexico and Branson Missouri, as well as, time spent at Priest Lake playing cards and picking huckleberries with lifelong friends. More than anything however, Larry will be remembered for his love of WSU Cougar athletics and was very proud to be a long time Cougar Booster. Larry is survived by wife Beverly of over 50 years, daughter Laurel (Mike) Bahr of Colbert, son Brad Smith (Jennifer VeVea-Smith) of Sammamish, grandkids Kelsey (Fred) Amusavi, Kenney Bahr (Andrea Cox-Bahr), Courtney Smith and Cooper Smith, brother Floyd (Cathy) Smith and sister Lorraine (Tom) Crouch. Larry is predeceased by his father Ernie Smith (Helen Smith), mother Zona Miller (Lloyd Miller) and daughter Debbie Smith. In addition to Larry�s family and dear friends, his treatment specialists deserve a very special recognition. Dr. Kirk Lund and his staff at Rockwood Cancer Treatment Center provided exceptional support and the highest level of care. Larry appreciated the compassionate, considerate professionalism they exhibited throughout the years of care they provided. A Memorial Service will be held at Heritage Chapel on Sunday, November 9th at 3pm. A reception celebrating Larry�s life will follow the memorial at 4:30pm at the Touchmark retirement community Hoyle Room.
