Laurie Jane Thompson

April 25, 2017

Laurie Jane Thompson Obituary (Age 65) Left this world Tuesday, April 25th, at her home and in the loving arms of her family. She was born in 1952 in Bethesda Maryland, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Cease. She grew up in Spokane and attended Shadle Park High school where she met the love of her life, Larry Thompson. They were married on April 24, 1971 and while still kids themselves had two daughters. Their first at the young age of 20 and the second at just 22. Laurie stayed at home with her daughters and then when they were older attended nursing school. She graduated in 1982 and went on to have a long career in nursing. She worked a number of years at Sacred Heart Hospital, as Dr. Hedequist's nurse and at several long-term care facilities throughout Spokane holding positions such as DNS and work within marketing departments. \ Laurie's spirit and eloquence naturally attracted people. She truly wanted to help everyone and was that mom on the block to whom kids would bring sick birds and stray animals. Her career choice as a nurse further magnified her nurturing spirit and desire to help and care for all who needed love and watching over. To this day her front porch is a haven for stray animals. Laurie loved her dogs and having pets; sometimes she had up to 5 animals at a time and often without the consent of Larry. Throughout the years Larry would only learn of a new addition when he would come home to find a box with white bunny ears popping out or a new puppy waiting to meet him. Laurie was the life of the party and her house was always filled with love, laughter and music. She would take the simple things in life and make them extraordinary. She loved decorating her home, her garden and being outside in the sunshine. Her favorite time of year was Christmas- the decorating, family gatherings, and the excitement. She passed this joy on to both her daughters and grandchildren. To the kids, spending the night at grandmas and sleeping under the tree while waiting for Santa are their favorite memories. They will remember their grandma and the way she lived life and the beauty she brought to everything she touched. Laurie is survived by her husband of 46 years; Larry Thompson. Her parents Joan and Richard Cease and her mother in law Joan Thompson. By her daughters Jill Funaro (Gary Funaro) and Tricia Reding (Aaron Reding), grandchildren Richard, Rachel, Gabriella and Michael; brothers and sisters in law Jerry Thompson, Garry and Kathy Thompson, Terry and Kelli Thompson and Tammie Moss. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am Saturday May 13, 2017 at St. Davids Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall Street, Spokane. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Laurie, please visit our Tree Store. Read more Events APR 25
