Leah Cannaday Owens Obituary (Age 98) Passed away at the Good Samaritan care facility in Spokane Valley on Friday July 18, 2014. The youngest of six children, Leah was born in South Jordan, UT on April 6, 1916 to Lee and Mary Cannaday (widowed two months before Leah�s birth). Leah lived in Utah for four years before moving with family to Canada. At age 21 she relocated to Spokane with her mother. Leah married John William Owens on December 25, 1941 and had four daughters. After Leah�s daughters were in school, she earned her GED and attended Mr. Lee�s Beauty School, becoming a licensed Beautician. She operated her own home beauty shop which she maintained until retiring at age 65. Leah was one of the original founders of Merry Glen, a home and school for special needs children. She served on the board of directors and as their first president. Her hobbies included horseback riding, gardening and ballroom dancing. An accomplished artist, Leah enjoyed capturing the beauty of the Canadian wilderness in her paintings. She sang beautifully and participated with a group called the Joyettes. Leah is survived by three daughters, Nancy Coleen Owens living in Spokane, Rosemary Park living in Pasco, WA, and MaryLee Drury living in Springville, UT. Leah is preceded in death by daughter Susan Irene Linerud on June 25, 1998 and husband John William Owens on July 6, 2001. Leah has nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral services will be held at Heritage Funeral Home Friday, July 25th at 1:00pm.
