Leanah Schallau Obituary (Age 82) Leanah Schallau was born and raised in the Midwest. She died unexpectedly at home on April 16, 2016. She met her beloved husband of 60 years, Con, while playing together in the Iowa State Orchestra; she, the violin and he the oboe. She was friendly, generous, and loved to talk to people. She walked almost everywhere she went. Leanah filled her time by volunteering and later, taking care of her husband, Con. When their children were grown, they moved to Washington, DC, where she was honored as White House Volunteer of the Year. When Con retired, they volunteered together at various Presbyterian conference centers and schools around the country, from Sitka, AK to Stoney Point, NY. She and Con finally settled in Spokane, WA where they continued their volunteer work at Deaconess Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. She was also active at First Presbyterian Church. The third of four children, she was 82 years old and preceded in death by her sister, Caroline. Leanah is survived by her husband, children Pam and Dan, grandchildren, Hannah and Consei, siblings Richard and Betsy and nine cousins. By request, she has been cremated. Any memorials may be sent to Deaconess Hospital volunteer department, Ronald McDonald House, or Mothers of PreSchoolers (MOPS) � for MOPS, checks written to FPC with Schallau on the memo line, and sent to First Presbyterian Church 318 S. Cedar St. Spokane, WA 99201. An open house in her memory will be held on Wednesday, May 4th, from 4-7pm at First Presbyterian Church.
