Leona "Susie" Robbins

October 04, 1925 - January 06, 2015

Leona "Susie" Robbins Obituary Susie peacefully passed away at Rockwood South?s Courtyard after a long battle with Alzheimer?s. She was the daughter of immigrant parents who settled in Cosmopolis, WA where she was born and raised. She graduated in 1943 from Aberdeen?s Weatherwax HS., and after WWII she and her parents took the Queen Elizabeth to Europe. After 9 months visiting the family homeland, Luxembourg, Susie returned to Aberdeen and her job at the National Bank of Commerce. She left the bank when she married her high school sweetheart, Richard ?Dick? Robbins, and stayed home to start their family in 1947. Her husband?s work moved them to several cities. In 1960 the family returned to Spokane which they?d always called home, where their children were raised, and Susie returned to work. Her 25 year career began at the First National Bank. A career move took Dick to Seattle in 1974, and Susie transferred to the Lynnwood branch of the Old National Bank. After briefly living in Alaska, and upon retirement, the couple returned to Spokane. Susie was an avid Dixieland Jazz fan. She and Dick travelled often and widely to attend a Dixieland Jazz festival. They loved to dance and sing along with the music and became personal friends with many band member over the years. As a founding committee member of the Spokane Dixieland Jazz Festival, she was active on the committee for the 10 years that festivals were held here. Susie took great pride in her children and grandchildren and travelled to watch them participate in sports. When the competition became stressful, she preferred to wait at home with a warm meal. She was an excellent cook; her flaky pie crust became legendary. Acquaintances became long-term friends when Dick brought them home for dinner and Susie cooked one of her fabulous meals. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dick. Survived by daughter, Sydney Hansen (Jim) and son Dan Robbins (Debbie) of Spokane; son Tim Robbins (Traci) of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Andrew Hansen (Beth), Camie Chimienti (Sam), Nick Hansen (Sarah), Kim Correia (Sean), Kelly Robbins, Brad Groh (Megan), Shannon Gregg (Chris), Tyler Robbins, Tiana Albertson (Jacob), Travis Robbins (Mandi), and 10 great-grandchildren.
