Leonard D. Stern Obituary
(Age 66)
Leonard was born on May 24, 1946 in South Africa. At age 10, he and his family emigrated to the United States and settled in Scarsdale, NY. He attended Colby College in Maine and earned a B.A. in Chemistry in 1968. He then earned two Master's Degrees from the University of Oregon: one in Interdisciplinary Studies in 1976 and another in Experimental Psychology in 1978. Then in 1980, Len earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oregon. In 1981, he became a Professor of Psychology at Eastern Washington University, where he worked for the remainder of his life. Over the course of his career, he mentored many students and wrote two textbooks: one on human memory and another about using statistical software. On August 11, 1984, Len married Barbara Gross in Spokane, WA. They were happily married for 28 years. He enjoyed woodworking, making home improvements, playing the guitar and violin, traveling, skiing, and occasionally bodysurfing. Len was an extremely considerate, generous and intelligent person who was, above all else, an amazing husband and father. He had a quick wit and a fantastic sense of humor that could make anyone smile. Unequivocally reliable, he could always be counted on for sound advice, a little perspective, and the ability to solve any problem. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Miriam. He is leaving behind his loving family, including his wife, Barbara; his daughter, Chelsea; his son, Drew; his stepdaughter, Jennifer; and his three brothers, Walter, Ron, and Ernest and their families. Len will be truly missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Home.
