Leonard "Lee" Luckey Obituary (Age 85) Leonard ?Lee? Luckey passed away on September 21, 2016 in Spokane, WA. He was born on August 5, 1931 in Sandpoint, ID to Merton and Blanche Luckey. Lee graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1950. He went on to serve in the US Navy for 20 years as a Chief Petty Officer and served on the USS Kitty Hawk. He achieved many accomplishments in his life. He cooked meals for Presidents Truman and Eisenhower at their summer White Houses. He was an instructor at the Navy Food Management School in Honolulu and an assistant Chef at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. He was sent twice to the South Pole to teach high altitude cooking and baking. He was the Executive Chef at the Davenport Hotel in the 70?s. He owned the Bee Hive Restaurant in Cheney, WA. He was an instructor for the Hotel/Motel Management program at Spokane Community College. He was the first to teach mixology (bartending) classes at SCC. He worked for the Dealers Auto Auction as a driver and cooked soup twice a week for the drivers. Every Thanksgiving season he would demonstrate how to cook a turkey in a microwave at Sears. He also cooked meals for the Rotary Club Summer Camps; each night had a different theme. He married Carol Mundo on July 14, 1956 in Alameda, CA. They had two children, LeeAnn and Lenny. He enjoyed going with Carol to her birthplace, San Juan, Puerto Rico. He also enjoyed long-distance bicycle rides, especially his bicycle trip to see his older brother Alvin in Utah. He loved old school country music such as Johnny Cash, Kitty Wells and George Jones. For the last 5 years, every Christmas he was treated to his own private old-school country concert, featuring one of his favorite local country performers. He was well known for being a member of the Republican party and was proud of it. Lee was also a member of the Assumption Catholic Church here in Spokane. Lee is survived by his children, LeeAnn (Steve) Reed and Lenny Luckey, both of Spokane; his brother, Harvey (Eva) Luckey of Spirit Lake, ID; two sisters-in-law, Grace and Thelma; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his siblings and their spouses, Alvin (Pauline) Luckey, Lavon (Louise) Luckey, Genevieve (John) Bowbly, Louise (Bob) Bair, Everett (Anna May) Luckey, Neil Luckey, Dora (Glen) Stewart, and Burton Luckey. Visitation for Lee will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Monday, September 26th from 10am ? 5pm and Tuesday, September 27th from 8am ? 5pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 28th at 11am at Assumption Catholic Church with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following. After the interment, all are welcome to join the family for a reception at Assumption Catholic Church.
