Leonard Mitsuru Kasai Obituary (Age 89) Died October 14, 2014, Leonard Mitsuru Kasai was born on June 12, 1925 in Toppenish, Washington. In 1942 his family was relocated to an internment camp at Heart Mountain, Wyoming. At 18, Leonard enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Tokyo as an interpreter during the U.S. occupation of Japan following World War II. After his military service, he attended college in Los Angeles. He returned to Washington and settled in Spokane. Leonard was employed by the United States Postal Service in Spokane, and also operated Kasai Maintenance Service. Leonard was an avid gardener; was also an expert hunter of wild mushrooms and he was the king of discount shopping, always finding everything for just the right price. He is survived by his first wife, Mary Kasai of Antelope, California; his second wife, Nobuko Kasai of Spokane; twin daughters Carol Love (Don) of Windsor, Colorado and Cheryl Kasai of Antelope, California; a grandson, Ross Hiroshi Love of Windsor, Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W.
