Leonardo Sr. Cantu Obituary (Age 71) Passed away on August 19, 2011 at his home in Cheney, WA. He was born July 16, 1940 in McAllen, TX to Leopoldo and Esther Cantu. Born and raised in McAllen, Texas, Leonardo entered the United States Army in 1961. He proudly served his country for 13 years during Vietnam and received the Bronze Star. He moved to Cheney, WA in 2000 to be closer to his family. Leonardo leaves behind his sons; Leopoldo, Leonardo Jr. and Jose. His daughters; Katharina, Maria, and Jessica, daughters-in-law; Caryn and Kimberlee, son in-law; Baldemar and 12 grandchildren. Leonardo will always be remembered for his kindness, always encouraging advice and willingness to help others, but mostly for his ability to make people laugh. He succumbed to lung and pancreatic cancer after a courageous battle, surrounded by his loved ones. Having touched the lives of so many, he will be greatly missed. A Rosary will be held Monday, August 29th at 7pm at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cheney with the funeral mass on Tuesday at 11 am with a reception to follow. The inurnment will be at 2:15 at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery.
