Leslie Bernard Dieckman Obituary (Age 95) Leslie Bernard Dieckman passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 5, 2018. Les, as he was known to his family and friends, was born on January 14, 1923 in Oak Park, IL. Les was a college student at the onset of World War II whereupon he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and served three years as a B-17 pilot stationed in Italy as a member of the 483rd Bombardment Group. Following WWII, Les returned to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo to finish his degree. Special Agent Leslie Dieckman served with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for thirty years and during his career with the FBI, he remained in the Air Force reserves retiring in 1972 at the rank of Major. During his FBI career, he was stationed to eleven offices including Seattle, Galveston, Miami, Las Vegas, Washington DC, Savannah, Buffalo, Butte and Boise. Although Les never piloted a civilian aircraft, Agent Dieckman once posed as a commercial airline pilot during a hostage standoff. Les retired from the FBI, while stationed in Spokane, in December 1977. Following his retirement Les continued to work as a private investigator with D&H Associates. Les married the love of his life, Donna Dyer, in 1957. The couple raised three children, Jane (Mercer Island, WA), Jeff (Ketchum, ID) and John (Spokane, WA). The family spent their summers at the simple Red cabin built by Donnas father on Twin Lakes near Rathdrum, ID. Not satisfied with simply driving the boat, Les learned to water ski while in his mid-fifties. It was at this time that he also took up alpine skiing. Les and Donna returned to the Inland Empire after retirement, eventually building a beautiful home on the shore of Twin Lakes. It was on the deck and dock of this home that Les enjoyed spending time with his kids, granddaughters, friends and countless family members visiting from all corners of the globe for their annual summer vacation. Les will be remembered by family and friends as modest, generous, kind and soft-spoken. He attended Central Lutheran Church and was a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, the 483rd Bombardment Association and the Spokane Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the BPOE and served as the Board President of the Riverview Terrace Retirement Center. Les is survived by his wife Donna, children Jane, Jeff and John and grandchildren Sydney and Bayley. A memorial service will be held at Central Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 11th at 10:00 AM. Les Dieckman was both a gentleman and a gentle man, he will be missed deeply.
