August 11, 1932 - June 27, 2017

Letty Spencer Obituary Luetta Letty Christina (Schaal) Spencer died June 27, 2017 after a brief illness and hospitalization. Letty was born August 11, 1932 in Lind, WA to Andreas and Christina Schaal. Lettys mother died when Letty was only three years old. Lettys father farmed in Lind and on Five Mile Prairie before moving to Spokane. Letty graduated from Mead High School in 1950, then worked for the phone company. She married Robert Bob Spencer in Spokane in 1954, living on Air Force bases in Guam and California before returning to Spokane. Letty continued working for the phone company until after the birth of their first son, Steve, in 1963. Their second son, Ken, was born in 1965. Letty and Bob enjoyed raising their sons, supporting their activities, and traveling annually to visit family across the country. Bob died in 1980. As a single parent, Letty worked full-time as a bookkeeper for Zip Trip for the next 40 years, retiring at the age of 83. Lettys pride and joy were her two sons and four grandchildren (Jim, Mary, Jarod, and Jordan) whom she loved fiercely. Letty enjoyed reading, working in her yard, and being with her many relatives. Letty was cheerful, kind, loving, and quick to laugh with a bright smile. Her family knows they were loved by the best, and she will be dearly missed by friends and family alike. Letty is survived by her sons, Steve (Angie) Spencer of Nine Mile Falls, WA and Ken (Kristi) Spencer of Canby, OR; grandchildren Jim, Mary, Jarod, and Jordan; sister Marie Holliday; and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. Letty was preceded in death by her parents, 12 of her 13 siblings, and husband, Bob Spencer.
