Lila Grace (Groenig) Hay Obituary (Age 89) Passed away on December 16, 2015 after a recent illness. She was born in Soap Lake, Washington on February 12, 1926. Her birthplace was at the "Rock Castle," belonging to her Grandfather, August Schrag. Her father was William (Willie) Groenig, and her mother was Sophia Cora Schrag, both of whom preceded Lila in death. She was also preceded in death by her infant sister Leona Pearl Groenig, and former husband Philip David Hay. Lila is also survived by her five children: Linda Diane (Hay) Weber of Deer Park, Washington, David Glen Hay, and Janice Nadine (Hay) Parkin of Spokane, Washington, Randal Philip Hay of Hermiston, Oregon, Lester Eugene Hay of Springdale, Washington. Lila is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Lila was a graduate of Ephrata High School in central Washington. In school she was known as "Penny" because of her beautiful red hair. She served as an assistant Librarian, and as a staff reporter for her High School paper, the "Tiger Rag". Lila was also a member of the Glee Club, Girls' Club, and was the prompter for her senior play "A Ready-Made Family". As a young woman, Lila worked for the U.S. Post Office in Soap Lake, Washington where she meet her husband Philip Hay. She helped Phil build their first home which was the second house in the Lake View Park development in Soap Lake, Washington. Lila and Phil bought their first farm in Talent, Oregon. They later moved their family to Hermiston, Oregon where they acquired a 100 acre ranch. With the help their five children, they expanded the ranch to include 160 acres, and named it the Rocky Ridge Red Angus Ranch. In the mid 1970's the ranch was relocated to Deer Park, Washington. Lila and Phil operated their ranch in Deer Park until they divorced in 1984. After the divorce, Lila returned to school in Spokane, Washington. She earned a C.N.A. certificate and a dietary aide's certificate. Lila then used her education by working at several nursing facilities, the Guilds' School, as well as providing in-home care for people in Spokane. Lila loved caring for her family, was a skilled seamstress, and an excellent cook. She passed her homemaking, sewing, and baking skills on to her children.
