Lloyd Alfred Dunlap Obituary Lloyd Alfred Dunlap our beloved husband, dad and granddad, was born on September 13, 1934 in Carthage, MO. His family moved to Bend, OR while he was a very young child and he grew up on the family farm. He attended grade school and high school in Bend. As a teenager he delivered newspapers and worked for Les Schwab when Schwab first began his tire company in central Oregon. Upon graduation, Lloyd moved to Bremerton, WA to go to school as an apprentice electrician in the shipyards during the Korean War. He joined the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged 10 years later. In 1952, on his 18th birthday he married his high school sweetheart, Alice Joy Valitchka. During their 61 years together they embraced each other and their growing family and many friendships they made while moving with his job. In 1957 Lloyd applied for work with the Bonneville Power Administration and continued his education in apprenticeship programs. He worked as an electrician, operator and meter-relay technician. He won numerous awards for his abilities during his 43 years with Bonneville. At 50 years of age, he earned his BA in Business and was then promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Maintenance. He loved his work and found it sometimes challenging, exciting and fulfilling. He was a man who embodied and balanced strength, integrity and ambition. Lloyd was a very capable person, one of those guys that could do anything he put his mind to. He was interested in rebuilding cars and houses, which he did numerous times. He designed and made beautiful furniture and learned to do brick work. He loved to ride motorcycles, and bicycles. He loved to take the family out boating and waterskiing on the Snake River. A true outdoorsman, the family did a lot of camping, evolving from sleeping on the ground in sleeping bags to owning a 5th wheel and traveling the country. Everywhere Lloyd went his camera went too. For a time, he was a volunteer fireman. Even though he was a very active and physical person, he had a contemplative side. For many years he ministered to men in prison and shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them. He truly had a servants heart, and we as a family realize how blessed we are as a consequence. Lloyd was active in his church and served as an elder and other opportunities to serve such as teaching Sunday school. Lloyd and Alice have four children: Michael (Valerie), Julie (Mike), Laurie (Scott) and Christine (Dennis). He leaves nine grandchildren, Alicia, Janessa, Misty, Lacey, Shelby, Anna, Kaylin, Marcus and Colten. Also four great grandchildren, Tess, Texas, Riley and Aubrey. Lloyd was a warrior during the years of struggle with Alzheimer�s, a battle he handled with grace. He was able to live at home with Alice until just 10 months ago when he moved to Clare Bridge of Spokane. We are so grateful for his care while there and thankful for the many people that loved and cared for him. As a family we know he lived his life well and used it up! Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Marie Dunlap and sister, Margaret Henderson. He is survived by his brother, Robert Dunlap (JoAnn) of the Spokane Valley.
