April 07, 1931 - April 13, 2011

Lonnie D. Sawyer Obituary (Age 80) Lonnie passed away at home on April 13, 2011 after a long battle with coronary artery disease. He lived a full life right up to the end and was a true inspiration to all his family and friends. Lonnie was born in Crofton, Nebraska on April 7, 1931 to Lester Henry and Hazel Victoria Sawyer. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Romona (Young); their three children, son David Sawyer, daughters Sue Mauk, Terri Hall and husband Mark; grandchildren Paul Mauk and wife Rachel with great-granddaughter Skylar Kathleen, Amy (Mauk) VandeVanter and husband Kurt and Matt Hall; sister Mary and husband Roland Johnson, plus many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by sister Katherine Harrison. Lonnie grew up on the family farm outside of Bloomfield, Nebraska. He met the love of his life forever, Romona, at the University of Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Nebraska, "Once a Cornhusker - Always a Cornhusker". After graduation he moved west to work at Kaiser Aluminum Mead works until his retirement in 1985. The true passions of his life were bird hunting and salmon fishing. He enjoyed the cackle of a pheasant before he shot it over his dog Chief. He loved to hear the scream of the fishing reel on a nice "smiley" salmon. He was one outdoors guy, enjoying golfing, bowling, gardening and laking with his family and friends. Most precious to him was his family. Their needs, desires and happiness were foremost in his thoughts. He will be sorely missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, April 18th at Heritage Funeral Home.
