Lt. Col. Howard L. Stanfill

Lt. Col. Howard L. Stanfill Obituary (Age 84) Howard was born on October 2, 1927 in Walla Walla, WA to Thomas Burton and Lois Marie (Young) Stanfill. He passed away on January 9, 2012 in Spokane. Howard attended school in Pomeroy, WA when growing up and entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1947 to become an aircraft mechanic. He went on to become an officer and pilot. Howard retired at Fairchild A.F.B. as a Lt. Colonel in 1971. He married the love of his life, Catherine on June 2, 1951 and was very devoted to her. They had their daughter Denice at Walker A.F.B., NM in 1961. While in the service, Howard was a B52 Sr. Aircraft Commander and flew 263 missions over Vietnam, earning several awards to include the Distinguished Flying Cross and Cross of Gallantry. After retiring, he became a finishing carpenter. He enjoyed building RC model airplanes as well as camping and fishing with his family. Howard's grandchildren were the "apple of his eye". Howard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Catherine of Spokane, WA; daughter and son-in-law Denice and Dale Lewis of Spokane, WA; sister Norma McMurray of Lewiston, ID; grandchildren: Benjamin Lewis of Tampa, FL, Joshua and Stephanie Lewis of Portland, OR, and Amanda and Jon Hall of Spokane, WA as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Heritage on Monday, January 16, 2012 from 8:00AM to 12:00PM followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00PM. A Graveside Service will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
