Luella M. Knapp Obituary Luella M (Fid) Butterfield Knapp Luella M. (Butterfield) Knapp passed away January 15, 2023, in Spokane, WA at the age of 102. Luella, who preferred the nickname of Fid, was born in Prosser, WA to Benjamin and Bessie Butterfield on June 11, 1920. She was the 3rd of 7 children in the Butterfield family. Fid attended Lacrosse High School in Lacrosse, WA and graduated in 1938. She met Robert M (Bob) Knapp from Colville, WA, and they were married June 29, 1940. After Bob�s time in the Air Force during WW II, the couple settled in Pullman, WA where Fid helped support the family by working as a bookkeeper for JC Penney�s while Bob finished a MA degree in Sociology at WSU. Their only son Robert M (Knapper) Knapp Jr was born there on February 13, 1945. After Bob Senior finished college, the family moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, then later to Anchorage, Alaska as he pursued a career as a Professor of Sociology, and where Fid worked as a school secretary. Fid loved to reminisce about the hardships of Alaskan winters, and about the many trips and adventures they had in the state. After several years, yet another move to St Paul, MN, and years later to Rochester, NY where they lived for over 20 years. Bob was a Professor of Sociology at Monroe Community College and Fid became the manager and head bookkeeper for the International Museum of Photography (aka. The George Eastman House) in Rochester. NY. Fid often said that she moved 19 different times during her married life! After Bob suffered a heart attack, the couple retired to Spokane in 1978, and Bob Junior followed to live closer to family. Fid and Bob loved to travel, taking many road-trips around the nation, and especially in the Pacific Northwest that they loved. While Bob enjoyed reading and studying various subjects, Fid loved to write letters and crochet. She was also a lifetime member of Easter Star chapter #163. Bob Junior lived with his parents taking good care of them during their final years, something Fid was so grateful for. Fid was proceeded in death by her husband who died in April 1993, and then her son on March 11, 2021. She was also proceeded by her parents, her sisters Alice (Harvey) Reiber of Pullman, Florence (Bob/Abe) Lyle-Haynes of Pullman, her brothers Ray Butterfield (Estelle) of Texarkana, Texas, Ben Butterfield (Donna) of Kent, WA, and John Butterfield (Irene)of Ellensburg, WA. She is survived by her sister Nora Mae Keifer-Olfs of Pullman, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. According to Fid's wishes, there will be no service, but her ashes will be interred, along with her husband and son at Greenwood Cemetery in Spokane. The family wishes to thank Katrina Melnikov and Mike Allen of Faith Adult Family Home in Spokane for giving Fid such excellent care in her final years.
