October 07, 1928 - September 18, 2016
Luella May Lundberg Obituary Luella went home to Heaven on Sept. 18, 2016. Luella was born at home in Diamond, Washington on October 7, 1928 to Archie McFarland and Rosa Lundstrum McFarland, the youngest of their four children. She spent a happy childhood playing with her brother Arlo, sisters Betty and Bonnie, and numerous cousins with whom she remained close throughout her life. She loved her doll Emily and enjoyed children so much she babysat for free. The family later moved to Spokane where Luella was active at Lidgerwood Evangelical Church. She graduated from North Central High School in 1946 and then worked at Jenson-Byrd, where she met Wayne Lundberg who would become her husband on June 12, 1949. They lived in Spokane for several years, enjoying the births of their children there. They belonged to Opportunity Presbyterian Church and cherished friendships made in Merry Mates. They learned to square dance and went camping and fishing for holidays away. In 1963 they moved to Valleyford, and Luella worked as a cook at Freeman High School and at an art factory in Mica, but her true calling was as a homemaker and mother, creating a happy home for her children to grow up in. We will always treasure memories of her Thanksgiving stuffing, potato salad, popovers, and, most of all, the dozens of cinnamon rolls she baked as Christmas treats through the years. She sewed doll clothes and school clothes, she knitted, she bought us piano lessons because she hadnt had them, and she showed us how to play pinochle. She supported anything we wanted to do, no matter how crazy, and she loved us as we were.Retirement opened up new interests for Luella and Wayne. They danced with friends at parties and celebrated friendships old and new. They traveled more in the U.S. and especially enjoyed vacations to the Oregon coast and to Minnesota with Luellas sister Betty. In 2000, they took a memorable trip to Hawaii with children and grandchildren. In 2003 Wayne and Luella moved to Holman Gardens Retirement Community. Luella loved both the other residents and the staff there, referring to them as her other family. She especially enjoyed the knitting group, playing cards, wine and cheese, Ladies in May, Octoberfest, and all the other social events that make Holman Gardens so special. There is no other retirement community like it.Luella and Wayne enjoyed 61 years together before he passed away in 2010. As a teenager, Luella taught a Sunday school class at Lidgerwood. She loved the children in her class so much that she prayed that God would someday give her children of her own. God answered her prayers. Luella was blessed with four children: Janet (Craig) Newton of Spokane Valley, Jack (Seelie) Lundberg of Cheney, Lori (Dan) Veloski of Spokane Valley, and Paula (Bill) Starr of Spokane Valley. She was also blessed with beloved grandchildren Nick, James, Dave, Josh, Christian, Ben, Autumn, Kramer, and Whitney; and great-grandchildren James, Aleia, Isaiah, Asher, Pyper, Micah, Levi, Zeke, Arabella, and Judah. Luella delighted in them all, and they all knew they were her treasures. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you honor who Luella was by embracing your own families. Spend time with each other often, forgive and give grace when necessary, look at life with joy, and remember to treasure every single day you have together. This is the gift Luella gave us, and we will be forever grateful. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Luella, please visit our Tree Store. Read more Events SEP 18
