Major John Roberts Ph.D. Obituary It is with deep, and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Major John Roberts, Ph.D., who passed on March 10, 2016, in Spokane, Washington at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. Major John (or John as he preferred) was born in Spokane, WA on July 27, 1939 to Merle and Hilda Roberts. John took advantage of his love of education and travel and followed a path that led him from local Washington State institutions of higher learning to those in Arizona, Illinois, Ohio and Texas. Along the way he earned degrees in History (Masters), Counseling Psychology (Ph.D.), and Theology (Master of Divinity). John used his education to work as a minister in Caracus, Venezuela, a professor in education at Malone College in Canton, Ohio, and a psychology professor at Grove City College in Grove City, PA. John practiced as a licensed marriage and family therapist for much of his life, in California, Nevada and Washington State, and at the last in Walla Walla, WA, where he also worked in and retired from the correctional system as a counselor. John spent much of his free time reading, writing, caring for a long line of very adored cats (and one dog) and plotting his next great adventure. He is survived in life by his daughter Rebecca and son-in-law Shawn, his daughter Deborah, his son Jonathon and daughter-in-law Hope, ex-wife, Rosalie; grandchildren Jade, Kyle and Isabella, step-grandchildren Cassandra and Bodhi; and his sister, Donna. He is preceded in death by his brother Dale and brother-in-law Don. A Memorial Service for John will be held Friday, July 15 at 1:00 pm at Heritage Chapel. The family asks that no flowers be sent. Instead, donations can be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Society, 7 George Street, Walla Walla, WA 99362, http://bluemountainhumane.org/donate/ or to the Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center Palliative and End-of-Life Care Foundation, 104 W 5th Ave Suite 230e, Spokane, WA 99204, (509) 474-3008.
