Malcolm Watson Obituary
Mal died peacefully at his home on the morning of October 7, just as he would have ordered it. The son of a native Scot, born April 10, 1919, Mal was educated by the Irish Christian Brothers and the Fathers of the Holy Cross at Portland University. He interrupted his business and Liberal arts education to serve with the U.S. Army at the invasion of Normandy, where he landed at Omaha Beach on day two with "C" Company. Mal fought all the way to Germany with Tank Destroyer unit and rose to the rank of Staff Sargent. When he demobilized, he came back to Portland and married his sweetheart, Mary Alene (Peggy) Allen. He went to work for G.E. Supply, and became a salesman and sales manger to support his growing family. They had six children. The family later moved from Portland, Oregon to Spokane in 1959 and became regional sales manager for Washington, Idaho and Montana, until retiring. Having built the family's first house in Portland, Mal became a consummate craftsman and cabinet maker, completing many projects for his parish "Our Lady of Fatima". His children also received beautiful pieces handmade furniture built by Mal. He was active on the parish council as well as with the Knights of Columbus where he served as grand Knight. Mal is survived by his wife, Peggy and his six children, Thomas J. Watson, Christine L. Dixson, RN, Ann F. (Fran) Watson, MD, Leslie J. Johnston, William M. Watson, SJ, and James A. Watson. A Mass of the Resurrection celebrating Mal's life will be held Tuesday, October 11, at 10:00 AM, St. Peter's Church, 3520 E. 18th. Ave., Spokane. Memorial contributions may be made to SpokAnimal.
