Marcia Elizabeth Purdy Obituary Marcia Purdy departed peacefully in the early afternoon of Jan. 17, 2016, surrounded by family and close friends. Born Marcia Elizabeth Varcoe on Oct. 20, 1938, she graduated from high school in Cleveland and attended the Cleveland Institute of Art. In October of 1960 Marcia wed David Purdy and spent several years in Nashville, Tennessee, and Fort Wayne, Indiana, before settling in Montana. In 1971 Marcia and David settled on the banks of the Bitterroot River in Florence where they raised their family. Marcia enjoyed collectibles and art. As a young lady, she took artistic liberties in her parents home while they were out of town for a weekend, converting a full dining room wall into a beautiful landscape. After the initial shock of the transformed dining room wall, her parents both enjoyed it. Marcia's interest in collectibles ranged from fine china to steamer trunks to early Fischer Price toys. Marcia was an active seller on E-bay and was loved by anyone who had ever done business with her. She was very proud of her 100 percent satisfaction rating in all of her E-bay transactions. Marcia loved animals and had rescued many over the years beginning with a pair of orphan skunks, Rosie and Gertie. Rosie and Gertie both were great admirers of Marcia, following her about the house and yard with their high-tailed waddle. Later, Gus, an injured mallard, was adopted by Marcia. Gus was very protective of Marcia, chasing off anyone who got too close. Numerous dogs and cats enjoyed the special care Marcia reserved for animals. Marcia is survived by her three children, Sandra Rene Crews of Anchorage, Alaska, David L. Purdy Jr. of Bellingham, Washington, and Steven L. Purdy of Lovington, New Mexico. She leaves behind five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and her beloved cats. Marcia will have a Memorial Service at 2:00PM Thursday June 16, 2016 at the Florence Carlton Church, 20075 Old Hwy 93 in Florence, Montana with inurnment to follow at the Florence Carlton Cemetery.
