Margaret Anderson Clizbe Obituary Margaret "Margie" Fields Walter Anderson Clizbe, twin sister to Cornelia Carruthers Souler, and sister of Russell Fields Walter, was born to Leroy Fields and Judith Scott Fields in Portland, OR, December 7, 1921. Margie passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2014. Margie's maternal grandfather was Harvey W. Scott, pioneer, philosopher, editor and publisher of the Portland Oregonian. Margie's father died young and a few years later her mother married William E. Walter of Pasadena, CA, former editor of Ladies Home Journal and editorial director of Curtis Publishing Co. The family resided in Beverly Hills, CA during the winter and spent summers at Margie's beloved "Homewood" near Tigard, Oregon. There they raised and showed horses, held tennis tournaments and swim meets, and entertained friends from all over the states. In their younger years, Margie and her siblings had a music trio, Margie played the piano, Cornelia played the violin and Russell, her brother, played the cello. They played at school gatherings, home parties and various women's clubs. Margie graduated from Marlborough School for Girls in Los Angeles, CA. She attended Mills College and University of Oregon, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She also attended UCLA, Los Angeles, CA. Margie was involved with LA Children's Hospital as a volunteer/fundraiser and was one of the founding members and the President of Della Robia Guild. During World War II she was a Red Cross Volunteer at San Vicente Veterans Hospital and a volunteer for the Volunteer Army Canteen Service. In the company of various celebrities, she met buses bringing wounded back from the Pacific War Zone at San Fernando Hospital. Margie belonged to the officers club at Beverly Wilshire Hotel and was also involved in USO gatherings. Margie served on the advisory committee with her brother and sister for The Judith Scott Walter Trust, which provides scholarships and professorships to students of Pacific University Forest Grove, OR. In May 1947 Margie married John W. Anderson in Phoenix, AZ and they settled in Brentwood, CA. In 1961 the family moved to Spokane, WA where she has lived since. In December 1986, John W. Anderson passed away. In June 1996 Margie married Reginald J. Clizbe, who passed away in October 2003. An avid golfer, Margie was a member of The Spokane Country Club from 1961. A woman of faith, she was a member of the Bishop Guild at Saint John's Cathedral from 1962. A philanthropist, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Spokane for 17 years. Margie loved entertaining and celebrating holidays and birthdays with her family and friends. She loved her pets and enjoyed her garden. She felt blessed to have such a dear, caring and loving extended family. Margie is survived by her three adult children: John W. Anderson, Spokane; Sarah J. Anderson, DVM, Salem, Oregon; and Maggie Anderson Nicolino, Seattle. A celebration of the life and faith of Margaret Anderson Clizbe will be held Saturday, August 9th, at 1p.m. at the Rockwood South Hill Community Center.
