Marguret Myrtle (Barker) Reed

June 02, 1925 - August 15, 2010

Marguret Myrtle (Barker) Reed Obituary Marguret was born June 2, 1925 in Spokane, WA and passed away August 15, 2010. Marguret grew up in Spokane before moving to Conrad, MT with her family after she finished the eighth grade. It was in Montana she met and fell in love with Robert Reed. Marguret?s family returned to Spokane and, through a series of letters, she convinced Bob to move there and the couple was married in Coeur D?Alene, ID on February 14, 1942. Marguret, along with young son David, lived in many places including California, Maine, Montana and Washington while Robert served almost four years in the Army Air Force during World War II. The family eventually settled in Spokane following the war and resolved not to move so their children could attend school in one place and have consistent friends. Both parents also committed to being involved in their children?s activities and in the community. Marguret held true to this commitment and over the years attended school, church and sporting events for children, grandchildren and even the great-grandchildren. She and Bob were among the first members at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, where they stayed active as long as their health permitted. Marguret served as the Church Secretary for twenty-one years and in the early days attended night school to learn to type and obtain additional job skills. She was a great ambassador for her church and her faith and was referred to as the unofficial ?Assistant Pastor.? Marguret also served as the secretary for the Clear Lake Pines Resort community for many years. Friends and family spent many wonderful summer days enjoying fishing, swimming, skiing and barbeques at the lake place. In a wonderful testament to her strength and determination, Marguret spent months in training and completed the Honolulu Marathon when she was sixty. Go mom! Marguret enjoyed a wide range of activities including cooking, sewing, reading, visiting with old friends and making new friends, but being a loving and supportive mom, grandma and great grandma was always first on her list. Marguret is survived by brothers Dick and Jim Barker, sister Pat Wessling, five children: Dave Reed of Sprague, WA, Rick (Karen) Reed of Zillah, WA, Barbara (Larry) Brodrick and Steve (Cheryl) Reed of Spokane, and Larry (Jane) Reed of Metaline Falls, WA, sixteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. As Psalms 128 states, Marguret was blessed to ?see your children?s children.? She was preceeded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, Robert; her father, Angus Barker; mother Myrtle Barker (Long); sisters, Virginia (Mickey), Laura (Sissie), Agnes; and brother, Angus (Bud). The family would like to thank Dan and April Hummel and Jennifer of Pleasant Haven Home for the loving care and attention Marguret received. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 22, 2010 at 1:00 at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hamblen Park Church Memorial Fund.
