December 13, 1931 - May 27, 2012

Marilyn Ulleland Obituary Marilyn Ulleland was born in Spokane December 13, 1931 to William and Charlotte French and died May 27, 2012 in the confidence that nothing in all creation can separate her from the love of God in Christ Jesus her Lord--not even death. Sandpoint, ID was her home for the first seven years of her life, after which her family moved to Shelby, MT. Later they moved to Coeur d'Alene, ID where she completed her high school education in 1950. Marilyn then went to Pacific Lutheran College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in January 1954. While at Pacific Lutheran, she met her future husband, Duane Ulleland, to whom she was married in December 1953. She accompanied Duane to St. Paul, MN where he was attending Luther Theological Seminary. She taught school in Mapleton and St. Paul, MN while Duane completed his education and internship. Marilyn then began a 40 year career as a pastor's wife, doubling up for 20 years caring for two children at home. Many adjustments were made in her life as she journeyed with Duane to serve congregations in Mankato, MN; Seward, AK; St. Paul, MN; Richland, WA; Ritzville, WA; and Spokane, WA. In all congregations she was appreciated as a caring friend, a willing volunteer, a good mother, a supportive wife, a gracious hostess, and a much loved person. While in Ritzville she worked as an office manager at the Adams County Extension office, and held a similar position with the Spokane School District, retiring in 1995. The last three years of her life were engaged in a battle against cancer in which she was an inspiration to those who knew her with her positive and courageous spirit and her strong Christian faith. Marilyn is survived by her husband Duane; son Craig Ulleland (Marva); daughter Cheryl Lucky (Stephen); granddaughters Emily Gordon, Tracie Cook, Caitlyn Lucky, and Christine Lucky; great-grandson Jax Gordon; and sister Carol Buchanan. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 2:00PM at Advent Lutheran Church, Broadway and McDonald in Spokane Valley. Memorial contributions may be made to Advent Lutheran Church, Union Gospel Mission, Lutheran World Relief or Hospice of Spokane.
