Marion Martin Scotten Obituary (Age 89) Died September 7, 2011. He was born January 26, 1922 in Cedonia, Washington to Richard and Martha Scotten. His grandparents, Martin and Mary Scotten, were early pioneers from Missouri and helped found the Cedonia Church. Marion graduated from Columbia High School in Hunters, Washington, in 1940. He moved to Seattle and was working at the Boeing aircraft plant when Pearl Harbor was attacked. During World War II, he served in the Army driving a supply truck on the Burma Road to China and returning by airplane over the Himalayas. After leaving the service, he lived in Spokane. He was a member of the Spokane City Fire Department for 30 years and retired from the position of Fire Marshal in 1977. He was a member of the local #29 International Association of Fire Fighters and the local retired fire fighters association. He was also a member of the national and local chapters of the China-Burma-India Veterans Association. He married Erma Hagen in 1947, and in 2007, shortly before her death, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Marion was as lovingly devoted to Erma's memory as he was devoted to her in life. He is survived by his children Kathryn Scotten (Dick Withycombe), Barbara Scotten-Peters, Deborah McNulty (Norm), and Kenneth Scotten (Linda). He is also survived by his grandchildren Matthew Scotten and Courtney Withycombe; Arron Scotten, Crista Peters and Shaun Peters; Henry McNulty; and great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Marion was a lifelong outdoorsman; his fascination with eagles best illustrates his affinity for nature. He'd hike to the highest point of his Cedonia property for a spectacular view of Lake Roosevelt. He enjoyed mountains and the ocean and was interested in Northwest history, notably the Lewis and Clark journey and the Mount St. Helens eruption. He traveled throughout the United States and was especially thrilled to see the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC, to which he contributed and visited shortly after it opened. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday 10-5PM at Heritage and Funeral Service 11AM Saturday Sept. 17th at the Cedonia Community Church.
