Martin Charles "Bud" Ragland Obituary
Spokane resident of 57 years, Martin Charles Bud Ragland passed away quietly on September 9th after a many year battle with myelofibrosis, a form of cancer. Bud was 85 years old and had his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Pearl, lovingly by his side.
Bud grew up and went to high school in Warrington, OR. He worked in the canneries until he joined the Navy in 1951. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was a proud veteran. Bud worked at Chevron Oil Company for 37 years as a Maintenance Technician, traveling over the state and region making lifelong friends and fixing anything that required it. He could fix anything and did. He was always quick with a joke or funny line and loved to laugh which endeared him to most everyone he met. He worked hard and played hard his entire life.
A devoted family man, he loved his wife Pearl, was fascinated by his three children Marta, Risa and Phillip, and could not wait to give each of his grandchildren giant hugs every time he saw them. He got excited for large family gatherings that usually involved a big meal, family games and a movie. For Bud that meant a western and John Wayne. Bud came up with the tagline after the Amen for blessing meals. A loud and sincere, and its great to be together!.
His favorite spot was his well-equipped workshop next to his dream house on the hill on Indian Bluff Road. He spent many happy hours in that workshop spoiling Duke, his dog of dubious heritage, with affection and pocket bacon. He would spend hours in his workshop tinkering and fixing. Then, he and Pearl would end the evening on their patio overlooking the beautiful view of Spokane with warm conversation and a cold drink.
Bud was a great friend, a devoted husband, a good father and grandfather. He will be missed but never forgotten.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 2:00pm at Heritage Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the building fund in Buds name to The Family of Faith Community Church, 1505 W. Cleveland, Spokane, WA 99205.
