Martin Kernerman Obituary
Mr. Martin Kernerman, 90, passed away the afternoon of February 19, 2010, in Spokane, Washington where he lived since September 2007. He and his wife, Rita, lived for 23 years in Arizona, most recently in Scottsdale and previously in Fountain Hills and Surprise. He lived first in New York and then New Jersey where he established a business, home and family. Martin was born in Brooklyn, NY, as the youngest of three children to Jennie and Morris Kernerman. Following his graduation from high school, he continued to work with his parents in their candy store. He served his country in the Army during WWII, from May 1941 through his honorable discharge in September 1945. He established and was an owner of a children?s snowsuit company through most of his work career. He married the love of his life, Rita in January 1958, in Irvington. They lived their lives together until just short of their 50th wedding anniversary when she succumbed to cancer. He was a member of Temple B?nai Jeshurun in Short Hills and attended services in Fountain Hills and Scottsdale, Arizona.
Martin loved beautiful things, and with Rita, collected art and furniture. He enjoyed music, particularly classical chamber music. He was an avid gardener and reader. He guided many lives and set an example to many people. His was a life based upon hard work, being productive, caring for family and friends and sharing in the success he achieved. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jennie and his father, Morris, as well as his wife, Rita and sister, Ida.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marcy and David Sukenick; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sandra Kernerman; his sister, Lillie Asarnow; and his grandchildren, Adam Sukenick and Kate and Julia Kernerman.
