Of Medical Lake, WA passed away peacefully at his home on the evening of October 10, 2009. He was born in Wayne County, West Virginia on May 22, 1924 to Sylvester and Esta Maynard and went by the name of Marv to his family and friends and "Papa" to his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Marv, being a member of the 'Greatest Generation', enlisted in the reserves after WWII, was recalled during the Korean War and toward the end of his career also served in Vietnam. He retired as CMSGT/E9(Senior Enlisted Advisor) in 1975 after more than 33 years of military service. After his retirement from the Air Force, Marv was employed by Medical Lake School District for 20 years as a school bus driver. He was affectionately known as 'Mr. Marv' by students, parents and staff. He was a loved and highly respected member of the community. Survivors include his wife of 63 years Edna Mae (Puckett); son Phil Maynard (Sherry and three sons) of Raymore, MO; daughter Gayle VanMatre (Mike and two daughters) of Spokane Valley; brothers Stanford, Masil, Bill and Darrell; sister Jean;numerous nieces and nephews (all of West Virginia/Virginia. Visitation will be at Heritage on Wednesday 8-5 and Thursday, October 15, 2009 8AM until the Funeral Service at 3:30 PM in the Heritage Chapel. Memorial gifts may be made to the MS Society or The American Heart Association .
