February 14, 1924 - August 24, 2012

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Lucht Obituary Our beloved mother was born February 14, 1924 in Charlotte, North Carolina to her parents, Marion Buford Huntley and Leah Penelope Phifer Huntley. She recently passed on August 24, 2012 after a valiant battle with lung cancer. Mom was active in sports at Oakhurst High School and upon graduation went to work as a legal secretary for officials at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. After WWII she married Charles A. Libby, Jr. and moved west to Spokane where she lived for 67 years. While raising her two children she was a Camp Fire Leader and a member of the Ladies of the Oriental Shrine as a dance performer. After her divorce, she married Robert E. Lucht and enjoyed many family days skiing at Chewelah Peak and golfing at the Harrington Golf and Country Club. In later years her greatest joy was keeping track of all her grandchildren and their activities. Betty is survived by her daughter Cheryl A. Chapin (Cheri) and husband Richard; her son Charles A. Libby (Cal) and wife Heidi, all of Spokane; her sister Barbara J. Simpson of Monroe, North Carolina; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Before her passing mom recently had a "rally" when we were all able to share our love during a wonderful family day. The family will hold a private graveside service to celebrate her life and passing in early September. Our family would like to express our grateful love and appreciation to J.J. and Karen from Horizon Hospice for all the hours of service and devotion they showed our mother in her last weeks. Also a special thank-you for the wonderful care given by the special people at Arbor Rose Adult Family Home.
