Mary Elizabeth "Nanny" Ostrander Obituary
On Monday, October 31, 2011 the Lord and Savior called the most beautiful of his flock home. Mary Ostrander, 81, passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family; her final days were spent in the care of Hospice of Spokane in their comforting Hospice House facility. Mary was born August 16, 1930 to Hiram and Lillian Wright of Idaho Falls and lived in several places over the years, including Blackfoot, Pocatello, and Denver before settling in Spokane in 1959. She worked there at the Crescent Department Store for many years and had a keen eye for fashion. Later in life, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant; she provided devoted care to her patients. Always dressed in the latest styles, even her grandkids couldn't keep up, and she would never make an appearance unless picture-perfect. In addition to fashion, she also enjoyed sewing, gardening, and was a wonderful cook - whose food her husband loved to eat. Most of all though, she loved being with her family. Whether it meant spending a vacation at Loon Lake, dressing up with the kids on Halloween, or just visiting on her back deck drinking coffee and watching the squirrels, she always had time for her family. She was the cornerstone and matriarch - loved and respected by all; the only time she was truly happy was when she was surrounded by those she loved. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Robert "Boppa" Ostrander; her adoring children, Marlene (Dave) McPherson, Mary Lou (Peter) Zografos, Lana (Mark) Cole, Edward (Linda) Stewart; her stepchildren, Robert (Kathy) Ostrander, Timothy (Stacy) Ostrander, and James (Pam) Ostrander; her siblings, Maxine Casper, Melville Wright, George Wright, Naomi Hoskins, Elaine Chavez, Roger Wright, and Joye Reed. Nanny will also be very fondly remembered by her 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, and was loved by countless cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends as well. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hiram and Lillian Wright and her sisters, Alice Louise Wright and Verda Wright, who will welcome her to the beautiful eternity of heaven. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 5th at 10:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Spokane who provided tender care to Mary in her time of need; please make any donations to Hospice of Spokane, PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210 in the name of Mary Ostrander.
John 10:27-28
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.
