December 24, 1917 - December 04, 2011

Mary F. (Holmes) Coe-Hughes Obituary Beloved mother, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, wife, sister, aunt and friend passed away on December 4th and will share her 94th birthday on Christmas Eve with the Lord. Mary was a woman of great strength and optimism. She was born fourth in a family of eight children in Alliance, Nebraska. She always said that she would marry a cowboy, and a cowboy did indeed lose his heart to the vivacious, dark-haired spitfire that he met on the dance floor. Beryl Coe married his Mary on her 17th birthday, December 24th, 1934, because she wanted to wait to wed until she was 17, as 16 was too young in her eyes for matrimony. From Nebraska, the couple moved to Coeur d'Alene and then Spokane soon after, where they raised their five children. Mary was an incredibly hard worker who would take on any task, from sewing up an injured horse to remodeling a house. She devoted herself to raising her family with games and laughter, freely giving her time to her 18 grandchildren. For many she was like a second mother. Mary's flower-lined house beckoned with welcome; the door was always open, and the coffee was always on. She would use her sparkling sense of humor to entertain both children and seniors when she donned her clown attire. Mary focused on the positive, painting joyful colors in all of the lives she touched. Husband Beryl Coe preceded her in death, as did son Robert Coe. Mary is survived by sons Beryl Coe (Mary Jo), Larry Coe (Jeanne), and Danny Coe (Trula); daughter Susan Coe-Lundstrom (Bradley); brother Eddy Holmes; sister Zelma Frankele; her many grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandkids; and her spouse William Hughes. Mary shared the last 26 years of her life with Grandpa Bill Hughes, keeping him in line and enjoying much happiness. Memorial Service will be at Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday, December 8th, 2011, at 10:00AM. Please wear red to honor Mary's favorite color.
