Mary "Peggy" Alene Watson Obituary
Mary Alene (Peggy) Watson, resident at Moran Vista Senior Care Center, died peacefully in her sleep at 9:30AM on December 28, 2011 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband Malcolm T. Watson on October 7 of this same year.
Peggy was born September 23, 1923 to Isom N. Allen and Gail H. Allen of Portland, Oregon. She was educated in Portland at St. Rose Primary School and Holy Child Academy, going on for further study to Seattle University. She married her childhood sweetheart, Malcolm, in 1946 when he demobilized from the U.S. Army after landing at Normandy and serving in the European Theater. They shared their lives together in Portland and Eugene, Oregon, moving their growing family to Spokane, Washington in 1959 where their 6th child, James, was born.
Peggy and her family were members of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where 5 of her 6 children were students at the primary school for all or part of their early education. She was a stay at home mother who spent her time caring for her husband and children. Later in life, she became, active in serving others with the "Meals on Wheels" program, assisting at the Spokane Blood Bank and playing piano for older patients at Sacred Heart Medical Center. A gifted pianist who played "by ear," Peggy delighted in sharing this gift of music. She also possessed a terrifically quick wit for which she was famous. Peggy always delighted in cats, dogs and all wild animals, a love that encompassed all living things.
Her Catholic faith was the hub of her life and became everything to her as the end approached. She had always asked that a cycle of 30 consecutive Gregorian Masses be offered for her after death and her children have happily engaged the Franciscan Friars of St. Bernardine Monastery to perform this last request.
Peggy is survived by: her sister, JoAnne of Tigard, OR; son Thomas, Junction City, OR; daughter Christine, Federal Way, WA; daughter Ann Frances (Fran), Spokane, WA; daughter Leslie, Spokane, WA; son William, Seattle, WA, son James, Spokane, WA. A Memorial Mass of Resurrection with inurnment will be held on January 18th at 10 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church, for friends and family unable to attend the Funeral Mass.
