Mavis Bell

June 11, 1920 - October 01, 2018

Mavis Bell Obituary After a life well lived, Mavis Jane Bell, is now at home with Jesus. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 11, 1920, to Hugh Archibald Currie and Elizabeth Veronica Hinch Currie, Mavis passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018, at the age of 98. After attending St. Scholastica Academy and Bryant & Stratton Business College, in Chicago, Mavis and her first husband, Walter Petty, welcomed a daughter (Marcy Thimsen). Later, she and her second husband, Harry Edward Bradley, welcomed two daughters in Chicago (Sherron Posten and Kim Morton), before moving their family to Glendale, California, where they welcomed a son (Patrick Bradley). After they raised their children, Mavis earned her California real estate license, and began what would be an over 30 year real estate career, mainly in San Jose, California, where she had both her real estate agent license and brokers license. Her joy was helping people find a house that was a wise financial investment and a place they could make a home. Mavis loved the Lord, giving her life to Jesus Christ at age 28, and she spent the next 70 years learning more about him and growing in her faith. She was a prolific reader, of both scripture and theological books, and filled many notebooks with her prayers and journal writings. She was an avid supporter of many Christian organizations and several missionaries. In 1989, she met and married Jacob Bell, who went to her church, and with whom she shared a happy life until his death in 2006. In 2007, she moved to Spokane, Washington to be near two of her daughters, and their families. Mavis is survived by her children (Marcy Thimsen, Sherron Posten, Kim Morton, Patrick Bradley), and grandchildren (Shannon Lorenz, Courtney Cimijotti, Blythe Thimsen; Greg, Russ and Bradley Posten, and Byron Posey) and great-grandchildren (Molly Lorenz Ward, Ryan, Connor and Anna Lorenz; Clara, Paul and John Cimijotti; Sierra, James and Cheyanne Posey). A grandmother to seven, and great-grandmother to ten, she was the grandma who had spunk and was sassy. The grandma who wore heels and dressy clothes everyday, and said she couldnt talk without her lipstick on. She had better style and fashion sense at age 98 than any of us could ever hope to have, and she moved so fast everyone had to quicken their pace to keep up with her. Shed drink champagne when she cooked, loved stopping for tea and cookies when out shopping, and she wielded a dish cloth around the kitchen in the most impressive manner. But it was her love of the Lord that always stood out the most. Wherever she went, shed meet people and ask them if they knew the Lord. She was so bold in her faith and truly had the gift of evangelism. She was a lifelong prayer warrior for friends, family and missionaries, and she always had an encouraging and wise word from scripture when anyone needed it. Every card or letter from her was signed with her name and with Romans 8:28 written underneath it: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. ~ (Romans 8:28) While it doesnt feel good to say goodbye to Mavis, oh what joy her family has in knowing where she is, and that we will see her again. This is not just said with hopeful and wishful thinking, but with truth, assurance and confidence. "Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this? ~ (John 11:25-26) Oh, but there is such a party in Heaven right now!!! A private family graveside service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made in Mavis name, to Hospice of Spokane (Hospice House south), PO Box 2215, Spokane WA 99210. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Mavis, please visit our Tree Store.
