Melvin Joseph Rubertt, Jr. Obituary Mel Rubertt was born in Spokane on September 16, 1943, and passed away in Spokane on April 12, 2015. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Melvin Sr. and Wilma; his brother Ronald, and nephew Tim. Mel married Betty Lemley on May 15, 1965. They were high school sweethearts and used to date while driving around in his 1940 Ford coupe. She always knew when he was coming to pick her up because she could hear the sound of the car several blocks away. He proudly served in the Army from 1965-1967 and was stationed in Missouri, Arizona, and spent over a year in Korea. Upon his discharge, Mel and Betty moved back to Spokane and started their family of three boys over the following years. Mel was an expert lather and steel stud and drywall foreman. His professional legacy includes craftsmanship found all over the greater Spokane area. He loved his job and served as the �go-to man� for difficult specialized projects. In his personal and professional life, Mel was known as a �man�s man.� He was the working man�s boss. He took care of his people and his people took care of him. Mel and his family loved to spend time outdoors. Favorite fishing sites included Tacoma and Kalispell Creeks; and many happy summer vacations were spent camping at Huckleberry Bay at Priest Lake. Some of their favorite memories were made at their lake home in Bayview on Lake Pend Oreille. His other hobbies included hunting and building remote controlled airplanes. He was especially proud of his giant-scale F4U Corsair. His family enjoyed spending time together and built a lifetime of happy memories of joy and laughter participating in the everyday activities of life. Love and loyalty are the cornerstones of the family Mel and Betty created. Mel was particularly close to his older brother, Lou Rubertt. They had each other�s backs for their entire lives and shared a bond that could never be broken. Mel is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Betty; son Russ (Marlene); son Joey (Melisse); son Louie; grandchildren Michaela, Ashley, Mercedez, Amber, Russell, Michael, Stacia, Kayla, Ashley and Erica. Great-grandchildren Jason and Julian; his beloved brother Lou and sister-in-law Audrey; and sister-in-law Carol Lemley. He had numerous nephews and a niece. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, May 2nd at Heritage Funeral Home, Fr. Joseph Weitensteiner officiating.
