March 21, 1945 - July 11, 2011

Michael L. Michelbook Obituary (Age 66) On July 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away at Spokane Valley Hospital from aggressive acute myelogenous leukemia. He was admitted to the hospital knowing he would have a long, hard fight for his life. No one knew the fight was going to be short lived. He developed pneumonia after a 10 day stay at the hospital and died the following day. With the family by his side, he left this world to be reunited with his parents and brother Rich. Born to Charles and Eleanora (Hempe) Michelbook on March 21, 1945, he grew up on a farm in Tekoa, WA with his 7 siblings. Shortly after graduating from Freeman High School he joined the Army, where he proudly served his country, serving most of his time in Korea. He married Bonnie Tourtellotte on June 7, 1969 in Spokane. Mike worked for BNSF in the B&B Dept. for 30 years. After retiring they bought a home in Yuma, AZ where they would spend their winters. Mike was a kind and gentle person who was hardly noticed in a room since he did not like center stage, yet he was a great listener and would give good advice if asked. He will be missed deeply by his family and all of those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife Bonnie, children Michelle Richards and Philip Michelbook, grandchildren; Dominique and Amanda Richards, whom he loved very much, brothers; Bill (Nancy), Ken, Ron (Cyndie) and Dennis Michelbook, sisters; Pat (Jake) Yearty and Jacque Hutchins along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am, Sunday, July 17 at Heritage Funeral Home.
