June 15, 1965 - May 18, 2015

Michael Ray Thompson Obituary (Age 49) Monday, May 18, 2015, God called our son home to be with him. Michael Ray, was born June 15, 1965, to James and Pearlean Thompson in Spokane, Washington. Michael, commonly referred to as Mike and younger sister Meschayle, were so excited when Skate King Roller Rink opened in 1980 around the corner from their house; they were there every weekend. Mike, was practicing so much that over time he was able to do tricks and all kinds of stylish moves. So much so, that the local Spokesman Review newspaper even captured it. Anytime youd see him hed have his headphones in; listening to his Walkman, skating around town and flirting with the ladies. A real ladies man, for sure. He attended various schools in the Spokane area; where he later graduated with his GED from Jantz Alternative High School in 1984. Life as they knew it, changed drastically after High School. Mike, was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia causing him to be admitted to the Psychiatric Ward at Deaconess Hospital and then transferred to Eastern State Mental Hospital as an inpatient. Once they felt he was stable enough comfortable enough around others he was discharged from Eastern State to Mallory Place, Memory Lane Home until his final placement at Mallon Place Retirement & Assisted Living in May of 2009. Mike, was well loved by all the staff at Mallon Place. Especially, Becky, whom the staff would often refer to Mike as Her Baby. One of Beckys fondest memories will always be Michaels strong heartfelt hugs and big bright smile which would brighten her day. The staff will remember Michael, as a loving ray of light, always showing a genuine concern for others and liked cheering up the other residents. Mike was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather James L. Thompson, Sr. of Epps, Louisiana; grandparents Virginia and Nathaniel Smith of Portland, Oregon; maternal grandparents AD and Thelma Hutton of Chicago, Illinois, and godmother Rozelle Brown. He leaves to cherish his memory his parents James L. Thompson and Pearlean Thompson; one older brother DeWayne A. Thompson; one yuounger sister Meschayle R. Smith (Eric) of Portland, Oregon; uncle Otis Best (Robin) of Portland, Oregon; one niece Ellyse "Brielle" Turner, US Air Force, Omaha, Nebraska; one nephew Drakkar JV, Las Vega, Nevada, and a host of other relatives, family and friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 11 am at Heritage Funeral Home followed by a Graveside Service at Riverside Memorial Park. An extra special "Thank You" to my Cornerstone Church Family. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Michael, please visit our Tree Store. Read more Events MAY 18
